Preface
It’s not difficult to find out in the present cultural ecosystem that things re undergoing a brand new transmutation from daily life to artistically work------pictures are orienting our habit of reading and expressing with an unprecedented power. It’s most obviously manifested in the works of young artists, who are influenced by consumption culture, Internet culture, cartoon culture and western culture. With the experience of urbanization and general adoption of the market principle in China, the new generation of artists has gained totally different visual experience from the generations before. They also boast of inborn sensitivity and consciousness in both comprehension and application of pictures. Compared with the older generations, the young artists are more at home in expressing their understanding of contemporary art with the attitude they have toward a game, and create with relaxation and pleasure new schemas that are full of excitement and lure.
Shenzhen Art Museum has organized Frolic Picture ------2006 Contemporary Chinese Art Invitational Exhibition, in the hope that the fourteen artists born in the late 70’s and the early 80’s of the 20th century would present the change in contemporary art with their works. “Frolic” implies not only the characteristic of their works but also their unconcern for life. And just because of that they and their works have been able to break through traditional criteria and concept. Things become uncertain and innovations find their way. Can these works meet the expectation as proper artistic annotation of the living era? We are positively waiting...
In order to make clear the clues of the development of Contemporary Chinese Art, Shenzhen Art Museum has organized series of exhibitions, which include: Picture of Concept------2002 Contemporary Chinese Painting Invitational Exhibition, Sky of Friendship------2005 Contemporary Chinese Shelve Art. As extension, Frolic Picture ------2006 Contemporary Chinese Art Invitational Exhibition, which is set in the present era and exams the state of art development.
I heartily extend my grateful thanks to the artists and friends who have contributed to the success of the exhibition.
